It was at the top of a building in Bangkok, during a jazz concert, that I met a South African who told me all about her beautiful country. It gave me the chills. Since that meeting, I wanted to see with my own eyes South Africa. So in 2016 I decided to discover this amazing country.
When I travel, I always try to contact fellow photographers. This allows me to meet local people who are be in a good position to talk about their culture and their country. That’s how I had the chance to spend 3 days with Garick and Lisa. They even invited me to photograph a wedding with them.
You will find the wedding photo report here: https://www.photographybychloe.com/mariage-afrique-sud/
Rather than going to see as many places as possible, my aim is to meet local people,to understand their way of life and their history.
So I ended up spending 5 days in Johannesburg with friends of friends who welcomed me as a friend. Thanks to them, I was able to discover the city in a totally different way to other tourists. It was also thanks to them that I ended up doing a photo shoot in Soweto. A unique experience !
I left South Africa with unforgettable memories. This country really got me out of my comfort zone.
It is a country that deserves to be visited, for its nature, its national parks, and especially for its history.
Despite the daily violence in the country, the South Africans are truly warm and friendly.
